| Playing quarterback for the Tigers and leading them to the third round of the Class 5A playoffs before losing to Benjamin Russell, Jernigan had an outstanding junior campaign. He recorded 21 total touchdowns coming on 1,025 rushing yards and 800 yards passing in 13 games. He had an even better season as a senior, leading his team to a 14-1 record and a runnerup finish in the 5A state playoffs.
A standout all-around athlete, Jernigan also plays basketball, baseball and runs track for the Tigers. As a point guard Jernigan averaged 10 points, 10 assists, and five steals as a junior. He was the designated pinch-runner for the baseball team as well as running the 4x100 and 100 meter dash in track.
