Harrison Pollard is a rangy athlete at Tuscaloosa’s (Ala.) American Christian Academy, and he has at least one school showing a lot of interest. Pollard tells ScoutSouth.com the latest news.
American Christian Academy was without a Smelley (Brad or Chris) playing quarterback for the first time in years, but that didn’t change much about their season, as they made their usual run deep into the Alabama state playoffs.
One of the key players on this season’s talented team was Harrison Pollard. He was slated as the starting quarterback and free safety coming out of spring practice, but he ended up playing multiple positions for the Patriots.
“I’m not hearing from many schools right now,” Pollard told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
“I have heard from Coach (E.J.) Junior out at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri, but the school talking to me most is Navy,” Pollard noted.
“Coach Jones told me I was pretty high on their board, and he wants me to come to Annapolis for an official visit. I plan on visiting sometime this month."
“I have given a lot of thought to a commitment to the Naval Academy. It is an eight-to-ten year commitment if you think about it. You have four or five years to play football, and then you have to serve your time. I have discussed it with my Dad (Ben Pollard), and he told me it was a big commitment, and I needed to have the answers to all my questions before I made a decision."
“That is what official visits are for. I will have questions, and Coach Jones and the other coaches will be able to answer those questions while I’m there. I can make an educated decision after I take my official visit, but the time hasn’t come to make that decision, yet."
Coach Ben Pollard is the former strength & conditioning coach at Mississippi State, and he is currently searching for a position with another team. Harrison admits he has always dreamed of playing for his father.
“I have thought about that all my life,” he said. “I could end up walking-on at the school where he coaches. He hasn’t found a job, but he has been in the business for a long time. He knows a lot of people, and they know him. I feel like he will find a coaching job soon,” Harrison Pollard explained.
