It's been an emotional week for a lot of teams with big coaching news and the AHSAA penalties, but week nine and region play is in the books. Most play-off berths are set, and there were many outstanding performances again this week from the great football state of Alabama. ScoutSouth.com presents the Stars of Alabama.

North Jackson
The top rated 4A defense (Yratings.com) came up big again against undefeated Madison County. The trio accounted for 31 tackles and four sacks. Frankie Crabtree led the group with 14 tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.
Ryan Crowe added another 10 tackles and a sack. Tana Patrick recorded seven tackles and two sacks in the 45-7 Region 7 championship clinching game.

The talented quarterback has been impressive all year and Friday night against Scottsboro was no exception. Slade Smith completed 18-of-24 pass attempts for seven touchdowns in a 49-6 win. His scoring passes were from 10, 16, 18, 31, 42, 48 and 63 yards.
Calvin Mulkey, Senior

Calvin Mulkey recorded 226 yards rushing with scoring runs of 31 and 65 yards. He also picked up 146 yards receiving including a 68 yard touchdown pass.
Rico Everette

Cordova
Cordova won their region by defeating previously unbeaten Winfield in a 38-16 contest. Rico Everette picked off two passes for touchdowns (54, 34 yards).
Leonard Stephens, Senior

Hueytown
Leonard Stephens had a big night against Jackson-Olin with 356 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. He carried the ball 11 times for 201 yards and four touchdowns. The senior recorded 155 yards on special teams' returns including an 89-yard touchdown.
Adrien Cole, Senior

McGill-Toolen
McGill-Toolen took on a tough Murphy team last week, and the top ranked defense in the state didn't disappoint. Adrien Cole recorded 18 tackles in the 42-10 win. Cole is a three-year starter for the Yellow Jackets and a perennial leader for the defensive squad.
Devyn Murphee

Devyn Murphee did it all against Fultondale last Friday. He recorded six tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. He scored on a 44-yard touchdown run. The Tigers were down 21-14 with less than a minute remaining when Murphee returned a 97-yard kickoff to take the game to 21-20. The Tigers lined up to kick the extra point for the tie and overtime, instead were successful with a two-point conversion to win the game and the region championship.

Piedmont stunned Sand Rock with a decisive victory (43-0) to secure a second seed in the state play-offs. Chase Childers completed 11-of-17 pass attempts for 155 yards and rushed for 160 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns.
Shawn Southward, Junior

Florence
Florence won their region with a 34-21 win over previously undefeated Huntsville. Shawn Southward rushed for 131 yards against a stingy defense and scored two of the Falcons' touchdowns. Southward has rushed for 1,242 yards through nine games this season.
Seth Baker, Junior

Springville
Seth Baker completed 28-of-43 pass attempts for 410 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Mortimer Jordan 40-25. Baker rushed for two additional touchdowns in the victory.
DeWayne Whitten, Junior

Undefeated Cottonwood finished up region play with a 52-12 win over Geneva County. DeWayne Whitten completed 16-of-20 pass attempts for 300 yards and four touchdowns. He rushed for another 61 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
Barrett Trotter, Senior

Briarwood Christian
The Auburn bound commitment completed 22-of-35 pass attempts for 223 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions continued their march towards a state championship in a 28-10 win over Chelsea. Barrett Trotter also rushed for 129 yards on 16 carries.
Brandon Smith, Senior

Brandon Smith rushed for 152 yards and four scores against Vigor (43-29) and added another 108 yards passing. The talented senior had a pair of one yard touchdown runs along with two others for 16 and 43 yards.
Kyle Barr, Senior

Kyle Barr completed 13-of-22 passing attempts in a win over Enterprise. The senior recorded four touchdowns, three through the air and one rushing score. With his team down 20-14 and a little over a minute to play Barr hit Miguel Caban for a touchdown, the extra point was blocked and the teams headed to overtime.
The teams traded field goals in the first overtime. Enterprise scored a field goal again in the opening series of the second overtime, but Barr came out throwing on the first play and completed a touchdown pass to win the game 29-26.
Caleb Massey, Junior

Caleb Massey has made a regular appearance on the elite Stars of Alabama list, and he came up big again in the win over Marion County (35-21). He rushed for 183 yards on 19 carries for three touchdowns and recorded seven tackles on defense.
Bradley Lightner, Senior

Bradley Lightner rushed for 249 yards on 13 carries in his team's crushing win over Providence Christian (61-27) to take the third seed out of 1A Region 2. Lightner also recorded an interception on defense.
Jerome Brown, Junior

Tuscaloosa County
Jerome Brown has been racking up the yards this season behind a strong offensive line that includes Alabama commitment John Michael Boswell. Brown recorded 183 yards with two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Steve Cagle, Senior
Quarterback, Linebacker
Lynn
Steve Cagle and his Bears sealed up the Region 5 third seed with a win over Berry 61-24. Cagle completed 12-of-20 passing attempts for 242 yards and three touchdowns. He added two rushing touchdowns as well. Cagle recorded 11 tackles from his linebacker position on defense.
