TANNER- The Tanner Rattlers proved to be too much for the Red Bay Tigers Friday night as they defeated the Tigers 34-9 in a class 3A, region 8 match-up. The Tigers played the Rattlers tough as they took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers forced the Rattlers to the air where Rattlers senior quarterback, Demarcus King connected on two touchdown passes. The Rattlers were able to pull away in the second half with strong play from their offensive line.
COURTLAND- R. A. Hubbard saw Chad Orr recover two fumbles returning one of for 90 yards and a touchdown. The second Orr fumble recovery was returned 45 yards to set Hubbard up for another score. Orr wasn’t the only Chief to get in on the fun; Jamarius Hampton also scooped up a loose ball and returned it for a 46-yard touchdown. The Hubbard Chiefs forced five fumbles and scored three times as they defeated the Phillips-Bear Creek Bears by a final score of 31-14.
SPEAKE- The Bobcats are 3-0 after beating the Hackleburg Panthers 35-7 Friday night. The Bobcat defense held the Panthers to under 125 yards of total offense as quarterback T.J. Green threw for two touchdown passes to lead the Bobcats past the Panthers. Speake will host Hubbard next week.
PRICEVILLE- The flow of this game was two things, defense, and penalties. Priceville defeated Columbia Friday night by a score of 20-14 in a game where neither offense could get on track due to good defense and too many penalties. Priceville had 11 penalties for 115 yards, while Columbia had eight penalties for 80 yards. Priceville’s defense recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown to give them the class 4A, Region 7 victory.
SHEFFIELD- The Clements Colts scored three touchdowns in the second half of Friday night’s game as they upset Sheffield 35-25 in a class 3A, Region 8 match-up. The first came after a Clements fake punt that gained them 25 yards and a first down. The Colts would drive it on in for the score to take the lead for good.
DANVILLE- The Hawks must be sick of losing games by one point this season. They have a record of 0-3 and all the losses have come as a result of one point. The Hawks are three points away from being an undefeated team this season. Danville gave up a late touchdown to Sumiton Christian to lose their third game by a score of 32-31. Last week the Hawks lost 14-13 and in the first week they dropped yet another 14-12. The Hawks could potentially get over the hump and start winning the close games. We’ll see what happens as the season unfolds.
COLBERT HEIGHTS- Jerry Yates threw for five touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 49-14 whipping of the Wildcats from West Limestone. West Limestone was actually up by a score in the second quarter of the game before Colbert Heights scored five unanswered touchdowns to put the game away.
MEEK- The Meek Tigers had the ball on the Marion County 29-yard line with just less than three minutes to play. Coach Dan Hogan decided to go for the first down on fourth and five instead of attempting a long field goal. The Red Raiders held the Tigers and held on for the win, 21-20. It is the first loss of the season for the Meek Tigers and coach Dan Hogan. Meek will travel to Hubbertville next week where the Lions have been playing very well.
LYNN- The 9th ranked Lynn Bears traveled to St. Bernard Friday night and came home with a convincing win. More importantly, it set the Bears up for a showdown with the Tornado’s form Parrish High, next week. Parrish was ranked No. 6 in the latest 1A high school football poll. SIX vs. NINE, that should be the 1A game of the week in North Alabama on 09/22/06.
HATTON-The Cherokee Indians went into the Hornets nest and came out with a 28-25 win Friday night. The Indians were trailing late in the game when they dropped back and flung a long pass in the direction of Dominique Croom. The pass was incomplete, but a pass interference penalty on the Hornets set the Indians up at the 10. The Indians punched it in from there and held on for the victory.
ADDISON- Homecoming was a happy event in Addison Friday night as the Bulldogs put it on their biggest rival, the Winston County Yellow Jackets (0-3), 64-27. The Bulldogs will travel to the home of the Cherokee Indians next week for a big region game. The Bulldogs moved up from class 1A after winning the state championship at Legion Field last fall. The move hasn’t seemed to bother the Dogs too much as they are ranked No. 6 in class 2A and 3-0 on the young season. We haven’t seen a feature story on the Addison Bulldogs this season, not yet. That might have to change this week.
