The stars were few, but bright this week in class 3A. Stars of Alabama presented here:
Stars of Alabama:
Coby Dozier
6-0, 190 pounds
Senior running back
Winfield High School
Dozier rushed for 152 yards on 17 carries in the team's 36-7 win over 4A Wilson. The senior scored three touchdowns. The second seed, Winfield, will host Colbert County this week in the first round of the play-offs.
Malik Harris
6-2, 190 pounds
Junior linebacker
Cordova High School
Harris had two sacks on the night including a big one on fourth down against Fayette County. The result was a chance of possession deep in their territory and Harris' team quickly scored. Cordova won the game 36-14, but it was a fight for the Devils most of the way. Cordova is the top seed in region 4 and will host Montevallo this week.
Greg Howard
6-0, 200 pounds
Junior defensive end
Chandler Glass
6-1, 180 pounds
Senior defensive end
Demario Lanier
6-1, 165 pounds
Freshman wide receiver
Gordo High School
It took a lot of help to take down top ranked 2A Pickens County, and Gordo had the goods. Howard had eight tackles and two sacks. He also had a crucial punt that pinned the Tornadoes deep. Glass picked up the baton and accounted for four tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery. Lanier was a star on special teams running two punts back for touchdowns in the 28-7 win. Gordo is sky-high as the second seed this week hosting Montgomery Academy.
Jordan Wimberly
6-4, 190 pounds
Senior running back/linebacker
Beulah High School
Wimberly led his team to a 34-27 win over 1A Wadley to close out their season. The senior rushed for 122 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 35-yard touchdown run. He also intercepted two passes on defense. Beulah finished the season with a 4-6 record.
