Piedmont's Christian Cantrell

This week's players of the week come from an overtime game that deserved no loser. Leeds' junior running back and Piedmont's senior running back both deserved the honor. Players of the Week:

Dedrick Forsythe (6-0, 180 pounds) rushed for 144 yards on 15 carries in the 14-13 overtime win over Piedmont scoring once and tossing an 82-yard halfback pass to junior Jonathan Rose.

Leeds has secured the 3A-region 5 championship, but plays one last region game when they host Tarrant this week.

Christian Cantrell (5-11, 180 pounds) and his team came up just short to reigning 3A champ Leeds on a two-point conversion for the win. The senior rushed for 114 yards on 16 carries.

Piedmont (6-2; 5-1) hosts Glencoe (7-1; 5-1) to settle second place in the region this week.

Stars of Alabama Class 1A-3A:

A.T. Thomas
5-8, 180 pounds
Senior running back/defensive back
Coosa Christian School

Coach Teddy Helms' team won their seventh game of the season with a 14-0 win over Ragland last week. Thomas rushed for 168 yards on 25 carries and picked off a pass. Thomas has now rushed for more than 1,000 yards and averages more than eight yards a carry.

Coosa Christian has one region loss this season to Appalachian who is also 5-1 in region play. Victory Christian sits with those two in the three-way tie for first place in 1A-region 5. Appalachian has a loss to Coosa Christian.

Coosa Christian will host Jacksonville Christian this week in their last district game of the season.

Josh Brooks
5-9, 165 pounds
Senior running back
Fruitdale High School

Brooks rushed for 252 yards on 24 carries scoring the team's only touchdown in a 9-6 win over Autaugaville.

Fruitdale is 4-3 in 1A-region 1, 5-3 overall, assuring their spot in the playoffs. They are off this weekend and end the season next week at 2A Washington County.

Victor Marshall
5-10, 160 pounds
Senior running back
Butler County Magnet School

Marshall racked up 464 total yards in the 62-28 win over Coffeeville. He rushed for 234 yards on eight carries scoring five times. The senior returned a 95-yard kick for a sixth score and returned three punts for 85 yards and did not play in the fourth quarter.

Butler County (4-4; 3-3) will travel to play J.F. Shields this week in their last region game of the season.

Josh Parker
6-0, 175 pounds
Senior quarterback
Pike County High School

Parker and his team sealed up the 3A-region 2 championship with a 34-0 win over Daleville. The senior completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 76 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 151 yards and scored twice more.

Pike County (8-0; 6-0) will travel to face Geneva this week in their last regular season game of the season.

Thomas Buchanon
5-5, 140 pounds
Junior running back/defensive back/punter
Bayside Academy

Buchanon rushed for 145 yards on 14 carries in the 31-21 win over Luverne. The junior caught three passes for 115 yards. Defensively, Buchanon had three pass break-ups and five tackles.

Bayside Academy (5-3; 4-2) will travel to face Central Hayneville in their last region game of the season having already secured their post-season berth.

Kendarius Fritts
5-11, 185 pounds
Junior running back
Linden High Schoool

Fritts heads up a team that may very well be the best in class 1A. They have won all eight of their games by a margin of 378-27 with six shut-outs. The junior rushed for 146 yards on 17 carries and caught a pass for 15 yards in the 64-0 win over John Essex. He scored his third touchdown on a 57-yard kick return.

Fritts has rushed for 1,316 yards on 138 carries scoring 22 times this season.

Linden (8-0) travels to face Autaugaville this week before returning home to face 3A Aliceville to close the regular season.

Caleb Beech
6-2, 180 pounds
Junior quarterback
Washington County High School

Beech rushed for 194 yards on 19 carries and two scores in his team's 33-21 win over Excel, their fifth region win of the season. The junior completed five of seven pass attempts for 58 yards scoring twice more.

Coach Joe Nettles says of Beech, "One of the best performances by a player in my 37 years of coaching."

Washington County (6-2; 5-1) will look to secure second place in 2A-region 1 when they travel to Flomaton this week. Leroy, defending champions, leads the region.

Taylor Thrash
5-10, 180 pounds
Senior running back/defensive back
Fyffe High School

The stellar high school career of Thrash will come to a close this fall, and he has visited this list often for Coach Paul Benefield's team. The senior rushed for 121 yards on 19 carries in their 34-0 dismantling of Sand Rock last week. Thrash also picked two passes and made five tackles in the win.

Fyffe (6-2; 5-1) travels to West End, Walnut Grove in a three-way tie with Westbrook Christian and Ider for the 2A-region 6 title.

Devan Parker
6-0, 175 pounds
Sophomore running back
Hatton High School

Parker rushed for 158 yards on 15 carries in his team's 36-35 win over Phil Campbell. He scored all five of the team's touchdowns and the two-point conversion to win the game.

Hatton (3-5; 2-3) travels to play Tanner this week.

Coby Dozier
6-0, 190 pounds
Senior fullback
Zac Taylor
5-8, 180 pounds
Junior running back
Winfield High School

Dozier and Taylor helped Winfield secure their fifth win of the season and a 5-1 region record with a win over Good Hope 35-19. Dozier rushed for 192 yards 30 carries and Taylor had 105 yards on 10 carries.

Winfield (5-3; 5-1) will close out region play with a road trip to Hanceville this week.

Devante' Lewis
5-5, 170 pounds
Senior nose guard/kicker
Marengo High School

Lewis recorded 16 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery in the team's 42-0 win over J.F. Shields. He also made four of five extra points. Coach Rutherford says of Lewis, "This young man plays bigger than his size. He has heart."
