This game has traditionally been known to come down to the wire. Though there is normally a lack of offense on either side of the ball, the game normally is billed as competitive to the very end.
Last season, Walker squeaked by McAdory (2-0) in a 17-14 victory on a cool November night that had major implications for the Alabama Class 5A playoffs. The win put Walker at 10-1 on the season heading to the playoffs and left McAdory’s fate up in arms, sitting at 6-4.
Ultimately, McAdory would be on the outside looking in, not qualifying for the state playoffs with that showing.
This year is an entirely different story.
McAdory comes into this contest ranked 11th in 5A, 2-0 so far on the season and salivating to return the favor for last year’s loss.
The Yellow Jackets have made quick work of their prior two opponents, defeating Parker 40-28 in the opener, and defeating Carver 35-0 in convincing fashion.
The Vikings come into their home this year, and the Yellow Jackets are undoubtedly anxious to avenge last year’s season-ending defeat. McAdory’s running attack is led by offensive lineman
Randall Reeves
, a 6-2, 280 pound mauler that constantly creates holes within the offensive front.
Reeves has not declared who the frontrunners are in his collegiate search, but he is garnering attention from many programs throughout the southeast.
Walker’s program seems to be heading in the opposite direction. The Vikings are 0-2 at this point in the season desperate for a spark to turn it around. A victory against a very hot McAdory team would be just the momentum booster that could turn things around for the Walker Vikings.
Though the Vikings have had tough luck starting this season, linebacker
Mitchell Spates
is a bright spot in the Vikings defense. The 5-11, 190 pound linebacker has been locked in on
UAB
to play his collegiate football.
McAdory seems to be the favorite in this year’s contest, but a Viking victory could be the highlight of the season for this rebuilding Walker team and the spark that turns it around.
Prediction: McAdory 28, Walker 7
