Brian Steele is a 6-3, 200-pound safety for the Cullman, Ala. Bearcats, and he is drawing early interest from some premier SEC programs. See which schools have visited the talented playmaker over the past week, as Brian Steele tells ScoutSouth.com the latest news.
Brian Steele
turned in huge numbers in both his sophomore and junior seasons. He recorded 104 tackles and two interceptions as a sophomore, and an unbelievable 151 total tackles with five interceptions as a junior.
His stats along with a sculpted body, and a 4.64 40-yard dash have caught the eye of several recruiters around the South, and more are sure to take notice in the immediate future.
Steele also plays quarterback for the Bearcats, but he has been stuck behind one of the state’s most prolific passers in
Tyler Caldwell
for the past two years. Steele will move over to play the quarterback position for the Bearcats in 2009, and he hopes to play the position at the next level.
“I played quarterback all my life,” Brian Steele told ScoutSouth.com from the Cullman football facility. “I would like to have a big year and go on to play quarterback at the next level.”
“Right now everyone is recruiting me to play defense because I have played on that side of the ball for two years.
Alabama
came by our school last week to talk to me and JR (
Jonathan Robertson
),
Tulane
came by Monday, and Coach Houston Nutt and Tyrone Nix came by yesterday (Tuesday),” Steele recalled.
“I have been receiving interest from
Ole Miss
,
Mississippi State
,
Southern Miss
, Alabama and a few others.”
“I grew up in Tupelo Mississippi, but we moved to Ocean Springs my seventh grade year. We were there for a few months when Katrina came through, and we had to move north,” Steele explained.
Steele named some early favorites.
“Growing up close to Oxford (Miss.) I was always a big fan of Ole Miss. If I have a favorite this early it would be Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. Basically the Mississippi schools,” Steele concluded.
