ScoutSouth.com: Nick Bertella has options
Posted Dec 28, 2008
Birmingham--John Carroll’s Nick Bertella has a decision to make sometime in the not so distant future, but he still needs to weigh his options before he sets his plans in stone. Bertella discussed his future with ScoutSouth.com
“Recruiting is going great,”
told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Birmingham, (Ala.).
“I actually changed positions this season and in the process I believe I found my natural position. I played middle linebacker for my school this season, and I believe I did a good job. I had 115 tackles and over 20 tackles for a loss,” Bertella stated.
“I slimmed down to 235-pounds, but I still need to work on my speed. I’m 6-foot, 235, and I ran a 4.9 before the season started. It was a big change from playing defensive lineman or offensive lineman, but I really like linebacker a lot.”
“UT-Martin was ready to offer me as an offensive lineman, but I don’t think I can carry the weight on my frame to play offensive lineman. I told the coaches at UT-Martin, and I haven’t heard from them again.”
“I have offers from
came by the school and got six of my game films just before the dead period, and they said they would be getting back with me soon."
Bertella admits he still has some thinking to do before he makes a decision.
“I have a meeting with the coaches at
, soon. I am going to meet with them and leave game film with them in hopes of receiving an invitation to walk-on. I would like to do the same at
, but I haven’t talked to any of their coaches since they have been going through their transition down there.”
“If I get an invitation to walk-on at Alabama I will probably take it. There are dreams, and there are attainable dreams. I just have to figure out which ones are realistic for me before I make a decision."
“I will also visit Carson Newman sometime in January, but I haven’t set an official date, yet. I might visit a couple of the NAIA schools, but I’m not sure right now. I just want to play at the highest level I can possibly play, and I have to figure out what that is for me."
