ScoutSouth.com: Chase Hughes talks recruiting

Chase Hughes is a 6-3, 280-pound linemen at Springville High School, and he is drawing early interest from schools around the Southeast. Hughes plays well on both sides of the ball, and his versatility has garnered the interest of several college recruiters.
“
Wake Forest
has contacted my mentor and invited me to camp,”
Chase Hughes
told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Springville, (Ala.).
The Deacons aren’t the only team interested in his ability.
“I am hearing from Wake Forest,
Clemson
,
Duke
,
Vanderbilt
,
Alabama
and
Auburn
,” he said. “I don’t have any favorites. I am just working on getting bigger and stronger.”
“I am working with two personal trainers. One for my speed and quickness, and the other for strength. I work everyday to get better. All I do is work-out and try to improve each day. Training is pretty much my life."
“I have gotten taller. I am just a little under 6-3, and a couple days ago I weighed in at exactly 280-pounds.”
Training isn’t the only thing Hughes has been doing well. He put up big numbers on both offense and defense during the 2008 season.
“I had 55 pancakes on offense, and 84 tackles on defense. I had 38 tackles for a loss, and 8.5 sacks. I also forced two fumbles, and I recovered a fumble. I also had a blocked kick. I don’t care which side of the ball I play on in college, I just want to be on the field,” Hughes noted.
Hughes has plans to attend several camps this summer.
“I plan on going to camp at Wake Forest, Alabama and Auburn. I will decide on others as time goes on, and I see which schools are interested in me the most. I just want to make as many camps and combines as I can during the off-season,” he said.
