Josh Hollingsworth is a quarterback from Hamilton, (Ala.), and he has been committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs for more than nine months, but not any longer. Hollingsworth tells us about his decision to move past the Bulldogs, and their newly hired head coach, Dan Mullen.
Josh Hollingsworth
explains, “Coach [Rocky] Felker came by the school late yesterday afternoon, and he told me that Coach Mullen was pulling my scholarship offer. He said Mississippi State was only going to sign one quarterback this year, and that wasn’t going to be me."
"He told me I could choose to grayshirt if I was interested in doing that. I’m not."
“I have been committed to Mississippi State for over nine months, and I have basically told the other schools that would not change my commitment. Coach Croom told me there was a difference in a commitment and an appointment, so I have always stayed true to my commitment.”
“
Tennessee
and
Vanderbilt
both called just before the season began and wanted to know how committed I was to Mississippi State. I told both that I was solid, and I wasn’t looking at anyone else."
“I have been in touch with Vandy, and they told me they had their quarterback for the season, I haven’t heard anything from Tennessee."
Samford
called, and I told them what had just happened. They told me I should have a scholarship offer from them in a few days.”
“I know Coach [Pat] Sullivan is a good man, and I know he is a good coach. Other than that I don’t know a lot about Samford. I know they have good academics, and I know some people that went to school at Samford.”
ScoutSouth.com asked Josh Hollingsworth about the status of his recruitment.
“Oh, it is wide open after yesterday," he said. "I just hate I was committed for nine months, and then all the sudden I’m not. It’s a tough thing to deal with – I’m not very happy about it right now."
