Sulligent's Bowling discusses Clay County
Sulligent QB/S, Caleb Massey
Posted Nov 26, 2008
Sulligent advanced to the semifinals in Class 1A in 2007, and the Blue Devils find themselves in a familiar position in 2008. They have moved up a Class, and advanced back to the semifinals where they will face a talented Clay County team.
Clay County and Leroy have been picked to play in Birmingham since early season, but the Blue Devils might have a say in it before it is all said and done.
Coach Dwight Bowling and his Sulligent Blue Devils traveled to Tanner last week where they completely dismantled the Rattlers. The Rattlers were perfect on the season before Sulligent upset the apple cart.
The Tanner rushing attack was held in check for the first time all season, while
went off on the Rattlers for over 270 yards through the air, 130 yards rushing and six touchdowns.
That was last week. While all those numbers are impressive, this week brings the Blue Devils a new challenge. ScoutSouth.com caught up with Coach Dwight Bowling, and he shared his thoughts about this week’s game.
“Clay County has a lot of weapons,” Coach Bowling emphasized from his home in Sulligent, (Ala.).
“They are really fast and really big – we have a lot to deal with this week. It will be a chore for us without a doubt,” he said.
“We have watched film, and we haven’t really found any weakness on their football team. We are going to go out and try to do the things that got us here. We need to just do what we do best."
ScoutSouth.com also spoke with Sulligent signal caller, Caleb Massey earlier this week, and he discussed this week’s game with Clay County, as well as recruiting.
“Clay County reminds me of Talladega Central from last year, except they are bigger, much bigger,” Massey told ScoutSouth.com
“I believe the game will come down to our defense. I believe we can score some points on them, but how many will we need will be the big question."
Massey has been on everyone’s radar this season, and the talented athlete has received one offer thus far.
“I have an offer from
,” he said. “I have talked to the coaches down there, and they want me to come down and take a look around. They have offered me as a safety.”
and Mississippi Sate have shown some interest. Coach
came by our school and talked with some of us, but they haven’t offered yet,” Massey noted.
“I have been to a few college games this season. I went to the
game earlier. I went to the
game, the Alabama –
game, and the Alabama – Ole Miss game as well. Coach Cignetti called me this week, and asked me if I wanted to come to the Iron Bowl, so I’m going back to Tuscaloosa this week."
We asked Caleb if he preferred offense, or defense at the next level.
“It doesn’t matter to me,” he said. “I just want to be out on the field. It doesn’t matter if it’s offense or defense,” he concluded.
