David Hawkins talks about Gadsden City

Etowah’s David Hawkins is one of the seniors for Etowah High School who has not defeated Gadsden City over the past four seasons. Hawkins gives ScoutSouth.com his opinion of this week's match up.

David Hawkins on Gadsden City:

“I think we are going to win,” a confident Hawkins told ScoutSouth.com from his home in Attalla, (Ala.).

“I think they (Gadsden City) are in for a big shock this week. We want to come out and hit them in the mouth from the opening play. We want to play with a lot of emotion, and pride. This is a big game because of the rivalry between the two schools;” Hawkins explained.

“It is also the last time a class from all the schools that were combined will play with, or against each other. Davin [Hawkins] and I went to Gadsden until we transferred to Etowah. We want to go out winners in this rivalry.”

"We want to use this game for a spring board for the rest of our season. We have lost two very close games to undefeated teams, and we want to change that this week,” Hawkins exclaimed.

“I got knocked unconscious in our first game with over nine minutes to play in the first quarter, so I didn’t really get to play in our opener. I came back the following week with 14 tackles. I had 12 tackles the next week, and seven tackles last week. I also have three rushing touchdowns this season.”

"I don’t know how many tackles for a loss I have, and I don’t know about rushing yards. I am just focusing on wining football games."

ScoutSouth.com asked Hawkins about his recruitment, and he shared the latest news.

“I have an invitation to take an official visit to New Mexico State, but I really don’t know when I’ll be able to get out there. I know Coach Hal Mumme is the head coach there.”

"I know some other schools have been in contact with my coach. They want to see film of my first four games, but I’m not worried about recruiting right now."

"I am focused on this season and winning football games. I want to get to the playoffs. We have played some really good teams early in the season, and that will help us when we get into the playoffs.”

If you aren’t making the trip to watch Alabama or Auburn you just might want to head out to this game. The talent on the field is enormous.

Etowah host Gadsden City Friday night at 7:00 PM at Jim Glover Field in Attalla.
