The 2008 Alabama high school football regular season is just over a quarter of the way complete, which means it is time to crank up the computer and get to work! This week is the first run of the football computer ratings, and it's way too early to get upset about the numbers. The cream will soon rise and the ratings will get down to business, but for now, we at least have something to see.
I'll start this season by saying "Thank you" to all the parents of the football players, cheerleaders or band members. It takes dedication to compete in high school ‘anything’ these days. The sacrifices and the training behind the scenes do not go unnoticed by this fellow parent.
Thanks to the coaches who dedicate every moment to their teams during the season. Thanks to the ticket takers, concession stand workers, parking attendants and all others involved in the operations of the game. It takes everyone to create the atmosphere of Alabama high school football on Friday nights.
You could probably flip a coin at this point in the season but there are ratings with some validity. A week or two more couldn't hurt, though I would be surprised if the ratings break 70-percent this early in the season.
Good luck to all teams and don't forget to visit www.yratings.com
6A games
***Note all rankings are done from Yratings.com power ratings.
#2
MCGILL-TOOLEN (3-0)
OVER #11 DAPHNE (2-1) BY 17 PTS
Daphne must shore up the defense to slow down the #2 scoring offense of McGill. Too much McGill-Toolen in this one.
#9
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY (3-0)
OVER #16 HILLCREST-TUSCALOOSA BY 9 PTS
Hillcrest will put up a fight but Tuscaloosa.County is great on both sides of the ball. Hillcrest will need their #10 scoring offense to put up some points on the stingy #7 scoring defense of County High. Both teams beat their common opponents by almost the same score (43-21 and 42-15). It has all the signs of a good game.
#14
OXFORD (3-0)
OVER #19 GADSDEN CITY (3-0) BY 6 POINTS
What wins offense or defense? Oxford is #8 in scoring offense and Gadsden City is #9 in scoring defense. The pattern shows in their common opponents. Oxford scored more and the Titans gave up very little. This one is worth watching.
*UPSET ALERT*
#4
WETUMPKA (3-0)
OVER #6 PRATTVILLE (2-1) BY 3 PTS
This is early in the season and the ratings can only judge teams by the current numbers, so this could be an upset. If you like defense, then this is the game for you: #2 scoring defense of Wetumpka vs. #3 scoring defense of Prattville.

#3
RUSSELLVILLE (3-0)
OVER #11 HARTSELLE (3-0) BY 11 PTS
Russellville is Top 10 in both scoring categories (#2 offense #10 defense). They will need to work to score against the #2 scoring defense of Hartselle. Both teams have played a weak schedule up to this point, so this will be a statement for the rest of the season.
#6
CHARLES HENDERSON (3-0)
OVER #21 VALLEY (2-1) BY 13 PTS
Region leadership is on the line in this one. Both teams are even statistically, so schedule strength might be the difference with Charles Henderson having the sixth toughest and Valley the 33rd.
#19
CENTRAL-TUSCALOOSA (2-0)
OVER #31 WENONAH (2-0) BY 11 PTS
Central's #1 scoring defense will try to stop the #14 scoring offense of Wenonah. It doesn't get any easier for Wenonah's #15 scoring defense with the task of slowing down the #5 scoring offense of Central. This game will be closer than it appears.

#13
DESHLER (2-1)
OVER #29 ROGERS (2-1) BY 10 PTS
Deshler will try to score often with the #6 ranked scoring offense vs. Rogers #31 ranked scoring defense. Both teams blew out the common opponent (R 40-13. D 56-7).
#33
BIBB CO. (3-0)
OVER #44 CALERA (1-2) BY 10 PTS
Two high scoring offenses will be showcased in this game (Bibb #4, Calera #9) but Bibb has the tougher #11 ranked defense to slow things down. Both teams have played an easy schedule up to this point.
