ScoutSouth.com caught up with Coach Reginald Bush Sunday afternoon, and he was kind enough to discuss the Sumter County game from last Friday night, and the upcoming showdown with Gordo High this Friday.
Coach Bush discusses Sumter County, and his team's performance.
“We jumped out to an early lead on them, and then we relaxed,” Coach Bush said from the Cordova football complex.
“Sumter County was a tough game. They just keep playing you no matter what the score is. They played us really tough and came back to make it a tough game for us.”
“Coach [Stacy] Watters is doing a real good job down there. I can remember a time, when I was at Aliceville, you could jump out on them early and they would start to fold. That isn’t the case anymore. They are very physical, and they play hard all the way through. He is doing a very good job with that program.”
We also asked Coach Bush to evaluate the performance of his two star players, in
Tim Simon
and
Ryan Smith
.
“They played pretty well," he said. Ryan [Smith] had a big kickoff return that led to a score. He played pretty well, but we could have done better in areas.”
“Tim had a big night rushing the ball. I think he had 188 yards rushing. He ran hard, and he had a pretty good game. As a team we can play better,” Coach Bush reiterated.
He also talked about the upcoming challenge for his team as they travel to Gordo to take on a Green Wave team that is always loaded with talent.
“Gordo,” he said with concern. “We expect a real good game when we play them. They have a real good ball club, with a lot of talent. We struggled with them last year. They were the only team in the regular season that really took it to us,” Coach Bush recalled.
“They have a very good offensive line, and very good quarterback. The entire team is loaded with very talented athletes. It will be a test for us early in the season."
“They will be fired up to play us, and we are going to have to get fired up to play them. This one will be a hard fought game."
