Coach Bryant Vincent, head coach of Spanish Fort High School, opened the season with a big win over J.O. Johnson 28-7. Coach Vincent talked about his 2008 team.

"On offense, it will be our QB and OL," coach Bryant Vincent said of the strengths of his team. "Logan Rogers (QB) is back for his senior year. He completed 62-percent of his passes a year ago in a new spread offense. He threw for 1,233 yards and rushed for 633 yds as a junior Last season we averaged 210lbs across the front. This year we will average 255 lbs."

"On defense, it will be our LB core and secondary. Our leading tackler from a year ago, Wes Runnels, returns in the middle (Jr). Senior Josh Dees (6’ 225lbs) at ILB and his brother Blake Dees (So.) at OLB (6’2 235) transferred in and are both college prospects."

Senior William Cook (5’11 190lbs) will hold the other OLB positon. All four of the guys can run and are physical."

"Keith Evans, who is committed to South Alabama, will be back at corner and Durelle Walker (son of Coach Walker, secondary coach at South Ala.) will start at the other corner. Both of these guys are cover corners and can fly."

"Hunter Adams is a three year starter at safety, and a great leader on the field. Garrett Beech will start at the other safety position and is a solid player."

"The leaders of our team are Logan Rogers (QB), Hunter Adams (FS), Garth Poe (DE), Nick Solomon (OL), and Josh Dees (ILB)."

"All of these guys love the weight room and are fierce competitors. They go full speed on and off the field."

The off-season prepares you for the season at hand. Coach Vincent is a strong believer in a disciplined team who know how to play to the whistle.

"We have worked the football team harder than any other team I have coached this off season," he said. "They have been a very coachable group and are starting to realize what it takes."

Spanish Fort won handedly last week over J.O. Johnson, and coach Vincent knew the task facing his team.

"They are very big and athletic," Vincent said. "They have been to the quarterfinals and semi-finals the last two years, so they know how to win. We have only won four games in the history of the school. Those four were last year. This is our second senior class. They have two great ILB, and the front on both sides are huge and physical."

Spanish Fort has at least a couple of players to keep a watchful eye for the 2008 season.

"Aaron Boswell is 6-3, 210lbs and can fly. He is very explosive and physical. He needs to add some weight to his frame. He is a rush end and has great technique," Vincent explained.

"Josh Dees is 6’ 225 and finds the football. He is a very powerful kid and physical on the field."

Spanish Fort will go on the road this week to face region opponent Gulf Shores. Robertsdale (6A) fell to Gulf Shores last week 21-6.
