Brooks Johnson is a Tiger

Brooks Johnson is 6-3, 235-pounds, and plays tight end for the Decatur Red Raiders, of Decatur, (Ala.). He has worked hard this summer to draw the attention of college recruiters. The hard work paid off Tuesday morning, as he tells ScoutSouth.com about his decision.

“I called Coach Helton this (Tuesday) morning around 11:00. I told him I was going to come to Memphis,” Brooks Johnson reported.

“Coach Helton was very happy. He was just about to go into a staff meeting, and he said he couldn’t wait to tell the rest of the coaches about my commitment.”

What separated the Tigers for Johnson?

“I like everything about Memphis. It was my favorite after I visited for the first time. I wanted to go there. I like all the coaches. I met them all the last time I was there. I like Coach West, and I like they will be running the spread offense this year,” Johnson said.

“I like the town. You always have something to do. I like the entire area. Memphis just seemed like the right place for me, so I went ahead and committed.”

We asked Johnson if there was any offer still out there that could change his mind.

“No, there is not an offer that will change my mind. I am going to Memphis,” he emphatically stated.

“I’m just glad it’s over with."
