Brooks Johnson is the latest Decatur (Ala) prospect who's drawing a lot of interest from schools around the South. Johnson recently took unofficial visits to Memphis and Arkansas. He tells ScoutSouth.com the latest news with his recruitment. | |||

“I went up to Memphis and met with Coach West and most of the other coaches on staff a couple of weeks ago, and it went real well,” Brooks Johnson said from his home in Decatur, (Ala.). “I sat down with the coaches, and we watched film of their tight end last year. I really liked their offense. They throw the ball to the tight end a lot, and I like that. I would be split out about 70-per cent of the time, which is something I would love to do." “After we watched film I got to take a tour of the facilities with coach Krauss and coach Bell. I enjoyed that as well. I liked all the coaches at Memphis. It was a great visit, and they said they would probably offer me later in the summer. They told me they didn’t offer a lot of players early and to be patient.” “They are supposed to come watch me practice during spring practice, which we just started. I really liked everything about Memphis.” After visiting Memphis Friday Johnson made the trip over to Arkansas to take in their Junior Day and spring game. He talked about the experience. “I got there for their Junior Day, and it was a lot of fun," he said. "I got to watch their spring game. They threw the ball to the tight end a lot, which was good for me.” “After the game was over we toured the facilities, and they were great. Their weight room was huge and very nice. I couldn’t believe how nice their facilities were. They were second to none.” “I had a good time at Arkansas, but I don’t really know where I stand with them. They said they liked my film, but they didn’t recruit Alabama very much." After making the long trek to Arkansas and Memphis Brooks stayed closer to home last weekend as he made the short drive to Tuscaloosa for the Nike camp. He received very good news while in attendance. “I enjoyed the camp a lot," he said. "I had a good day. We did some drills, and then we went over some patterns with the quarterbacks before we had the one-on-one competition. That’s where I feel I did my best, during one-on-one.” “When the camp ended one of the regular trainers came to me and told me they had discussed it, and I might be the best tight end they have seen all year. He said he had done three or four combines, and he thought I was the best one he had worked with." Brooks Johnson has no plans of slowing down this summer as he plans to attend camps and combines, if possible. “I’m going to try to finish spring practice very strong, and then I will begin to make it to a lot of camps," he stated. “I’m for sure going to Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, Auburn and Ole Miss. I might go to Arkansas too, and I would like to go to a Scout.com combine if I can get in one close enough to drive to." |
