ScoutSouth.com: Nick Bertella

Nick Bertella is a 6-0.5, 251-pound defensive end for John Carroll High School in Birmingham, (Ala.), and he is receiving a lot of interest from schools around the country. He shares the latest recruiting news with ScoutSouth.com.

"I have been to Memphis and Samford, and I plan to visit Southern Miss within the next three weeks," Nick Bertella tells us.

"I went to Memphis last week, and it was a good visit. I met with the recruiting coordinator and my recruiting coach when I arrived. I got to watch a practice and their spring game the following day."

"I also toured the campus and facilities with my recruiting coach, and I got to see some of the city while I was there. I like the city campus. It's similar to UAB and other city campuses we have here in our city, but Memphis seemed to be a fun place."

"I also visited Samford during the spring. I watched one of their practices and met with Coach Sullivan for a few minutes. I'm going back over there in a couple of weeks to take him a highlight film and to formally introduce myself to him. I like Samford a lot."

"I was invited the spring game at Southern Miss. It was the same day as the spring game at Memphis, and I had committed to go there. I plan on visiting Southern Miss for a couple days within the next three weeks. I look forward to talking with the coaches and seeing the campus."

"Coach Helton [UAB] came by school yesterday to see me and a teammate [Dustin Springer] and just to see how we were doing. I like UAB because they're close to home."

"I'm also receiving letters and emails from LSU, Georgia, Wake Forest, Duke, all the military academies and some Ivy League schools. Memphis, Southern Miss, UAB and Samford appear to be recruiting me seriously for now."

While Nick Bertella has plans to keep him busy over the next three weeks it isn't nearly the end of his plans for this summer.

"I am going to three day camps at Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State. Mississippi State is also sending me mail," Bertella recalls.

"I'm going to hit a lot of mini-camps this summer too. I plan to go to Memphis, UAB, Southern Miss, Samford, Jacksonville State, Troy and Georgia."

Bertella doesn't hold any offers at this time, but he does report a 3.15 GPA and a 25 on his ACT.
