Darrell Smith, from Gadsden, (Ala.), City is receiving interest from schools around the South. The 6-3, 220-pound defensive end tells ScoutSouth.com the latest news. | |||

“I am receiving interest from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Vandy and Tennessee. I have talked to coaches from just about all of the schools,” Smith said from his home in Gadsden, (Ala.). “Some are recruiting me as a tight end, and others are recruiting me as a defensive end. If I had a choice I had rather play defensive end.” Smith has already attended one Junior Day, and he shares his thoughts about the visit. “I went to Alabama’s Junior Day. It was good. I enjoyed it pretty well. I talked to Coach [Joe] Pendry, and we toured the facilities, ate and went to the basketball game," Smith explained. “I am going to Auburn’s Junior Day, and I hope to make it to some others as well. I also plan to attend as many camps as I can this spring and summer.” Smith also participates in track & field at Gadsden City, where he throws the shot-put and performs the triple jump. “I went to state this year in the triple-jump,” he said. I jumped 42-something, but I didn’t place.” Gadsden City finished the season 10-2 with a loss to Spain Park in the 2nd round of the 6A state playoffs. However, Smith expects another good season as a senior. “We have a lot of guys coming back,” he explained. “We lost some linemen and our linebackers, but we have some talented guys coming back. We have Dre [Kirkpatrick] and Kendall [Kelly] returning this year." Join ScoutSouth.com to track all Alabama high school prospects for the class of 2009. JOIN HERE |
