"I committed to Arkansas State today," Mike Timmons said. "They were the first team to get on me, and they have been on me hard ever since the beginning."
"Coach Kevin Peoples recruited me, and he did a very good job. He has been truthful with me from the beginning, and he really cares about my decision making."
Timmons hasn't taken a visit to Arkansas State, but that is about to change.
"I am going to visit the campus this weekend;" Timmons told ScoutSouth.com. "I am going to arrive Friday and come home Sunday. I'm looking forward to it. I talked to the coaches on the phone today, and they were very excited about my decision."
Timmons flew under the radar this season as he finished with 2,001 yards rushing in only 10 games. He missed several games with an ankle injury.
His Cullman Bearcats were defeated in the semi-final round of the 5A state playoffs, but not before Timmons and several teammates showed out for scouts.
Vanderbilt also took notice and had offered Timmons an invitation to walk-on this season with a scholarship to follow next year. Vanderbilt has signed their allotted number of running backs for this season and felt the need to try an lure Timmons to Nashville.
"I like Vandy, but I felt comfortable with Arkansas State," Timmons stated.
Asked if any schools were still recruiting him, Timmons replied; "Yeah, Ole Miss, Clemson and Louisville are still calling Coach Britton pretty often. He told me one of them called and talked to him today."
