Mike Timmons, running back from Cullman, (Ala.), was another Bearcat who wasn’t hearing from too many recruiters before his senior season, so he did something about it.
Mike Timmons
rushed for 2,043 yards on 235 carries with 30 touchdowns. Timmons averaged 8.5 yards per carry on the season. Timmons stats were even more impressive due to this performance in only 10 games as he missed four games with an injured shoulder.
Timmons talked with ScoutSouth.com about his recruitment.
Arkansas State
:
“They have been recruiting me pretty hard. They have come to my home a couple of times, and they want me to come up for an official visit after the dead period.”
Memphis
:
“I went up to Memphis a couple of times this season on unofficial visits. I had a good time, and it’s a pretty nice place. I could see myself playing there."
“They (Memphis) are coming for an in-home visit after the dead period, and they want to set up an official visit for January.”
Troy
:
“I went to Coach Franklin’s camp in Troy last summer, and they liked me a lot. They said I was the best back there, and that I caught the ball well out of the backfield. They called Coach Britton and set up a visit with me at my school. They also got my highlight film and said they would be back in touch with me after the dead period.”
Southern Miss
:
“They were recruiting me hard until they had the coaching change. They got in touch with me and said the new staff was going to watch my highlight film and get back to me as soon as they could.”
Arkansas
:
"Arkansas was recruiting me hard until Coach Nutt went to Arkansas, so now I’m waiting to see what happens there."
Ole Miss
:
“They called me and said they couldn’t really recruit me until after the Bowl game, but they would get back with me as soon as they could. They have to bring in the coaches from Arkansas, I guess.”
Timmons also received a call a couple of days ago with more good news.
“Someone called the school and said I had made 1st team All-State in a couple of the papers, but I really don’t know anything about it,” he said.
Timmons reports his favorites at this time as Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Arkansas State.
