A two-point conversion with 1:45 left on the clock gave Central a one point lead, and the Falcons defense held on to give Central a 28-27 win. The win over Thomasville avenged a first round lost to the same Tigers in 2006. It also gave Central a spot in the 4A State Finals next Thursday at Legion Field in Birmingham.

Thomasville started the scoring in the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run by Roya Campbell with about five minutes to go in the first. Central answered on their next drive as Derrick Cade exploded for a nine-yard touchdown run, but the extra-point was missed. At the end of one quarter, Thomasville led 7-6.

Central’s Jonathan Edwards had his first of two interceptions in the second quarter that set up a 24-yard touchdown from Cade. Quarterback Jeremy Williams ran in the two-point conversion.

Later in the second, Central was faced with a fourth and inches from their own 10-yard line and decided to go for it. Williams was stopped on the quarterback sneak. Two plays later Campbell punched it in from the two for the Tigers. That would make it 14-14 going into halftime.

Backed up to his team’s own one-yard line, Thomasville’s Campbell busted up the middle and got loose for 80 yards all the way to the Central 19. A few plays later, Campbell punched it in from the one. The extra-point was missed and left Thomasville with a 20-14 lead.

Central answered again on the next drive capped off by a two-yard touchdown run from Williams. The two-point conversion failed leaving the score tied at 20.

With 3:09 left in the game Thomasville scored the go-ahead touchdown, and it looked like Central’s undefeated season may come to an end. The Falcons had a different ending in mind.

Williams drove his team down the field and capped off the scoring drive with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Marcellos Wilder.

Instead of trying to tie it with the extra-point, the Falcon offense stayed on the field to try to win it. Jeremy Williams dropped back to pass and was forced to scramble. He found his way to the pylon just before the Thomasville defense closed in.

Williams finished the game with 183 yards passing with a two touchdowns (one rush).

Central will move to the State Finals carrying a 14-0 record. Thomasville ended their season at 11-3.
