This game boasts another rematch, albeit one from 2006. Last year’s underdog Central Tuscaloosa found themselves coming into their own towards the end of the season. They were facing a Thomasville team that were supposed to outmatch them.
Coach Melvin Pete’s Falcons pushed Coach Jack Hankins’ Tigers into an overtime duel. Thomasville went up by a score and the Tuscaloosa team matched it, but went for a two point conversion to outright win the match up rather than tying the game with an extra point. The two-point conversion failed, but that loss seemed to have been the start of something special.
Thomasville went on to play in the state championship finals before falling to Guntersville 28-27.
The Falcons haven’t lost a game since that gut wrenching finish. Last week Andalusia was supposed to be a great challenge for the team that outscored opponents 847-135. Didn’t happen. After a blocked punt, a fumble and two interceptions in the first half Andalusia trailed 33-7 and wound up losing the game 47-7.
Senior running back
DeMario Pippen
opened the scoring with a 60-yard run and
Jeremy Williams
and
Marsellos Wilder
hooked up on four touchdowns passes for the night.
South of Tuscaloosa in Thomasville the Tigers defeated Handley 49-12.
Coach Hankins’ team was successful through the air with two quarterbacks
Alex Buford
and
Daniel Rogers.
Together the two combined for 10 completions from 14 attempts and 220 yards. All 220 yards were to receiver
Tysean Thompson.
Thomasville’s rushing game wasn’t spectacular for any one performance, but the Tigers’
James White
had 75 yards on seven touches with a score,
Delvonte Harris
had 30 yards on seven carries and
Roya Campbell
scored three times with 44 yards on 13 carries.
Jarrell
and
Kattrell Watters,
the
UAB
bound twins, had 17 tackles.
Central Tuscaloosa wants revenge, and they may just get it.
Thomasville (11-2) vs. Central Tuscaloosa (13-0) at Falcon Stadium 7PM Friday.
