Cottonwood at American Christian

American Christian Quarterback Brad Smelley

The undefeated Cottonwood Bears survived a scare last week against Georgiana, knocking them off 20-19. This week they have an even tougher task as they take on the American Christian Patriots (10-2). The Bears will rely on their playmakers, on offense and defense, to win this game.

Coach Toby Greene talked with ScoutSouth.com about some of those playmakers, "Dwayne Whitten is our quarterback. He is a great athlete. He does a good job for us."

Whitten is the focal point of the offense, but the real task comes on defense and trying to stop Brad Smelley and the Patriot offense.

Greene will rely on guys like linebacker Jake Roberts and defensive back Antoine Graham.

Coach Greene added, "Junior linebacker Jake Roberts leads us on defense. He is our leading tackler. He is just gritty and has a nose for the football. In the defensive backfield, Antoine Graham leads us in interceptions. He's real good back there."

American Christian coach Stephen Hooks will rely on the athleticism of his quarterback and Alabama commitment Brad Smelley. He leads a potent Patriot attack that averages over 41 points per game. American Christian is coming off of a 37-30 defeat of Highland Home last week.
