The Chiefs have drawn the Oneonta Redskins from Region 5 in the opening round of the 4A playoffs next week.
North Jackson's leading rusher after nine games is Ron Gary with 1,342 yards on 163 carries and 17 touchdowns, an average of 8.2 yards per carry.
Zack Stewart is the only Chief to throw a pass this season, hitting 40 of 72 for 735 yards and 12 touchdowns, two interceptions. Ty Shrader and Drew Hicks have both caught 12 of those passes with Shrader picking up 214 yards and a TD, while Hicks has 155 yards and three touchdowns.
Tana Patrick has the most receiving yards and touchdowns. The junior has 225 yards, six touchdowns in nine games. Ron Gary is the leading scorer with 108 points on 18 touchdowns, while kicker Christoffer Stoevring is next with 61 points on 52 PATs and three field goals. Stoevring has hit 3 of 4 field goals this season, and has only missed one PAT in 53 attempts.
On defense, Frankie Crabtree> is the leader with 102 tackles, a quarterback sack, an interception, and three fumbles.
Zack Hammontree is next with 76 tackles, a half sack, and a fumble recovery, followed by Ryan Crowe with 63 tackles and a QB sack. Tana Patrick has 55 tackles, two sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery, while Blake Houston has 49 tackles and a QB sack to round out the top five.
Before the playoffs begin, the Chiefs must turn their attention to Etowah, a team the Chiefs have had mixed success against in the past.
North Jackson has played the Blue Devils six times in the past 12 years, and have only beaten them twice. Those wins were 31-0 in 1996 and 28-21 in 2001. Etowah won 42-6 in 1997, 28-6 in 1998, 37-7 in 1999, and 28-21 last season.
North Jackson carries a 9-0 record into the contest, defeating Buckhorn (6A), DAR, Ardmore, Priceville, Scottsboro (5A), East Limestone, Columbia, East Lawrence, and Madison County this season.
Etowah has a 5-4 record, winning over Lee-Huntsville, Albertville, West End, Arab, and Southside, with losses to the new Gadsden City High School, Scottsboro, Fort Payne, and Butler.
Last season against Etowah, North Jackson was dominating early on and looking like they were going to blow out the Blue Devils. The Chiefs were leading 21-0 with a little over a minute to go in the half, but a late TD by Etowah cut the lead to 21-7 at the half. Then, Etowah came out in the second half and took over the game, came back and won 28-21.
The Chiefs remember that loss and will be out to make sure that it doesn't happen again this season. Even though the game has no effect on the playoffs, it should be a good matchup.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Attalla.
