ScoutSouth.com: Coach of the Week

Posted Sep 28, 2007

ScoutSouth.com presents the Coach of the Week after the fourth week of the season to Coach Billy Woodham of Jess Lanier High School.

There was little doubt Coach Billy Woodham was a good football coach, but his transition to 5A high school football has been visibly seamless. Woodham had a record of 68-2 at Davis Middle School in Bessemer and was an assistant at Jess Lanier during a championship run in 1990.

Davis is a feeder school for the high school program, and Woodham has some familiar faces on his team in coaching most of them previously.

Woodham took over the helm for retiring coach Jerry Dismuke.

The Purple Tigers are off to a 4-0 start with a 7-6 win over ranked Pleasant Grove last week. Woodham's team defeated Midfield, West End and Wenonah in the prior three weeks.

Jess Lanier will host 2006 5A Champion Athens Friday night.

Congratulations Coach Billy Woodham of Jess Lanier High School.
