There were many great performances in the third week of high school football. It was difficult to narrow the field with numerous athletes stepping up their game. ScoutSouth.com presents the Stars of Alabama.


ScoutSouth.com Player of the week: Luke Harris

Luke Harris
Defensive Back
Mortimer Jordan (2-1; 2-0)

Other players may have had bigger numbers, but perhaps no player did more for his team than Mortimer Jordan's junior defensive back Luke Harris. Facing their biggest rival, Gardendale, and down 20-0 at halftime, Harris proceeded to pick off three passes in the second half allowing the 5A Blue Devils to come back for the 24-23 victory.


Satero Hardy
Tyshard Black
Courtney Upshaw
Eufaula (2-1, 2-0)

Number five ranked 5A Eufaula gives us a trio of players for the list. Senior Satero Hardy blocked a punt, Tyshard Black partially blocked another punt, and Satero Hardy got his second block. All three blocks resulted in scores for the Tigers. The University of Alabama verbal commitment, senior Courtney Upshaw, recovered two fumbles and returned both for touchdowns, 27 and 30 yards respectively. Eufaula won 49-6 over B.T. Washington.


Tyler Ray
Tristan Purifoy
Hoover (2-1; 2-0)

Hoover (No. 4) came up big when facing a stiff challenge from the fifth ranked undefeated Jaguars of Spain Park. The Bucs' offensive sparks came from senior quarterback Tyler Ray and senior wide receiver Tristan Purifoy. Ray threw for 184 yards and went 11-for-13 with two touchdowns and one interception. Purifoy recorded five catches for 119 yards and one touchdown. Hoover stunned Spain Park 23-7.


Jeremy Yates
Quarterback
Colbert Heights (3-0; 2-0)

Senior quarterback Jeremy Yates from undefeated Colbert Heights threw for 319 yards on 23 receptions with 29 attempted. Colbert Heights defeated West Limestone 44-20.


Evan Reddick
Running Back
Etowah (2-1; 2-0)

The Etowah Blue Devils faced a tough region game against Albertville (2-1; 1-1) and running back Evan Reddick came up big. Reddick recorded 26 carries for 210 yards helping the Blue Devils to 16-0 victory.


Terrell Stewart
Alexandria (3-0; 2-0)
Drew Phillips
Boaz (2-1; 1-1)

The number three ranked (4A) Alexandria Valley Cubs took on undefeated Boaz and came away with a 27-24 win. The stars of the game included Alexandria's junior back Terrell Stewart who rushed for 207 yards and a touchdown, and Boaz running back Drew Phillips who rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns.


Demont Buice
Running Back
Gaston (3-0; 2-0)

Gaston's Demont Buice, the sophomore phenom, rushed for 338 yards on 16 carries and tied a state record for number of touchdowns scored with eight. Undefeated Gaston defeated Collinsville 74-20.


Drew Long
Defensive Lineman
Winfield (3-0; 2-0)

Winfield faced undefeated Gordo, and the game was everything you would expect with the Pirates coming away with a 19-13 double overtime win. Winfield's senior defensive lineman Drew Long recorded 20 tackles with 12 solo takedowns.


Barrett Trotter
Quarterback
Briarwood Christian (3-0; 2-0)

The number one ranked (5A) Briarwood Christian Lions faced undefeated and number seven ranked Benjamin Russell. Lions' senior quarterback Barrett Trotter again lifted his team with 287 yards passing and five touchdowns over a stingy Alexander City defense. The Lions prevailed 36-21 to remain undefeated.


Brandon Ross
Running Back
Auburn (2-1; 2-0)

Auburn senior running back Brandon Ross carried his Tigers to a 35-21 victory over a tough undefeated region foe, Central Phenix City. Ross recorded 21 carries for 197 yards and scored on two option plays for 53 and 59 yards.


Michael Williams
Defensive End/Tight End
Pickens County (2-1; 2-0)

Senior Michael Williams plays both tight end and defensive end and faced Shades Mountain Christian winning 74-6. Williams recorded 12 tackles and three sacks. Williams is a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama.


Ramsee Miller
Offensive/Defensive Lineman
R.A. Hubbard (2-1; 1-1)

Hubbard's senior offensive and defensive tackle Ramsee Miller game up big for the Chiefs with 13 tackles, seven solo. Hubbard was facing undefeated Phillips, Bear Creek and took the contest 22-12.


Antonio Johnson
Running Back
Hale County (2-1; 2-0)

Hale County's Antonio Johnson recorded 13 rushes for 374 yards and seven touchdowns over 2A region opponent R.C. Hatch 63-16.

Florence quarterback Chad Willis, St. Paul's running back Ivan Matchett, Kaylos Pritchett from Marengo, Central Tuscaloosa's trio DeMario Pippen, Derrick Cade and Jeremy Williams.

Brooks fullback Kenyatta Roch, Sulligent running back Caleb Massey and quarterback Bradley Blaylock.


ScoutSouth.com team performances:

Isabella High School won their first game in 24 tries over Verbena 21-8. The Mustangs have shown a lot of improvement in 2007 under Coach Lanny Jones.

Top defenses include Etowah who shut out Albertville, and Hazlewood who has yet to give up a point. Andalusia for their 35-0 win over undefeated rival Opp.

Congratulations to Decatur for knocking off No 2 ranked J.O. Johnson with a 30-20 victory.

Congratulations to Coach Karl Smeltzer for his first victory as a head coach when St. James defeated 4A Alabama Christian 27-10.

Congratulations to the 2006 state champs 6A Prattville, 3A Pike County, 2A Leroy, and 1A Sweet Water for continuing their championship effort starting the 2007 season undefeated.
