High School Football sped off to a great opening weekend with games from Thursday through Labor Day. ScoutSouth.com presents Stars of Alabama for Week One.

Briarwood Christian's quarterback
Barrett Trotter
lead his (5A) Lions (1-0) against the (6A) ranked Vestavia Rebels (0-1) Friday night in a 21-12 win. Trotter completed 18-of-22 passing attempts with three dropped passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, He also rushed for 58 yards on 10 carries. The senior has scholarship offers from
Duke
,
UAB
and
Troy
. Trotter will see action this week at region foe John Carroll (0-1).
Michael Abernathy
Running Back
Russellville (1-0)
The (5A) Golden Tigers started the season with (4A) rival Deshler and managed to come away with a victory after two overtime periods, 34-28. Abernathy recorded 25 carries for 218 yards and threw a 25-yard halfback pass to the one-yard line where his team scored to win the game. Abernathy has scholarship offers from

Oklahoma
. Russellville will host A.P. Brewer (1-0) this week in region play.
Jarvis Abston
Fullback
Washington County (1-0)
Abston lit it up last week in (3A) Washington County's 34-14 win over (1A) McIntosh (0-1). The Bulldog rushed for 287 yards on 26 carries. The junior is 5-10, 230-pounds. Washington County hosts Mobile Christian (0-1) Friday in the opening game of region play.
Landon Curtis
Fullback
Ardmore (1-0)
Curtis ran wild against (3A) Elkmont (0-1) in their victory last week 25-9. The senior ran for 294 yards on 36 carries with four touchdowns. Ardmore (4A) plays East Lawrence (0-1) in a region game at home this week.
Ryan Dudchock
Defensive Tackle
Pell City (1-0)
The 6-4, 250-pound senior defensive tackle recorded 13 solo tackles, three for a loss and a quarterback sack against (4A) Cherokee County (0-1) last week 22-13. The Panther is interested in Duke and
Vanderbilt
Universities. Pell City(6A) will open region play at Shades Valley (0-1) Friday.
Ron Gary
Running Back
North Jackson (1-0)
The Chiefs’ back rushed for 1,068 yards as a sophomore. He started his junior season with a 250-yard tally on 26 carries for two touchdowns including a 68-yard scamper in North Jackson's (4A) win over Buckhorn (6A) 35-21. North Jackson plays their first district game at DAR (0-1) Friday.
Kenneth Kimbrough
Fullback
Clarke County (1-0)
Kimbrough strikes fear in his competitors. Teams have been known to focus their entire defensive game plan around him. The 6-3, 210-pound Kimbrough is an ASWA All-State player as an athlete while playing defensive tackle, tight end and running back. His (3A) Bulldogs stunned Scoutsouth.com number one ranked (4A) T.R. Miller (0-1) last week 36-7. Kimbrough rushed for 255 yards on 15 carries. Clarke County will open region play at home against Calhoun (0-1).
Ivan Matchett
Running Back
St. Paul's Episcopal(1-0)
The University of Alabama verbal commitment began his senior year against (6A) Fairhope (0-1) last week. The Saints (5A) won the game 42-20 and Matchett recorded 24 carries for 224 yards and three touchdowns. St. Paul's Episcopal will host region foe Williamson (0-1) Friday.
Tyrelle McCamey
Running Back
Scottsboro (1-0)
The Wildcats began the season by pulling off a shocker, defeating the 2006 (4A) state champion Guntersville High School (0-1) 20-14. The senior running back recorded 174 yards rushing on 27 carries and scored the winning touchdown with seconds left. He rushed for 1,241 yards during his junior season. Scottsboro will have big momentum when they take on Arab (0-1) at home in their regional opener Friday.
Adrien Cole

Glenn Harbin
and
Justin Pritchard
McGill-Toolen (1-0)
This senior trio, Cole a 5-10, 220-pound linebacker, Harbin a 6-6, 235-pound defensive end and Pritchard a 5-11, 210-pound linebacker, managed to shut down (5A) UMS-Wright (0-1) 47-0. Cole forced two fumbles early and Harbin and Pritchard each had two sacks. Harbin holds multiple scholarship offers from SEC schools including
Auburn
and Alabama. The Yellow Jackets will visit Blount(1-0) in the region one opener Friday.
Caleb Mitchell
Safety/Wide Receiver
Russellville (1-0)
Mitchell joins teammate Abernathy on the list this week. The 6-0, 175-pound senior had a great night on both sides of the ball. The Golden Bear recorded 94 yards receiving including a 70-yard touchdown reception, 31 yards rushing and seven tackles on defense. Mitchell has a scholarship offer to play football from
Middle Tennessee.
Quinton Pierce
Quarterback
Davidson (1-0)
Pierce had an electric game against (6A) John LeFlore (0-1) Thursday. The senior ran for 166 yards including 54 and 84-yard touchdown runs. The 6-2, 185-pound Warrior also completed three-of-six passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Davidson will play Murphy (0-1) in a district match-up Friday.
