Southern Choctaw Defender Talks Recruiting

One prospect to watch for this year is 6-5, 225-pound defensive end Lavanda Powe from Southern Choctaw High School in Gilbertown, Alabama. Powe talked with about his recruitment.

"I did real good year last," Lavanda Powe said. "I am an undersized defensive tackle right now, but I think I did well. I expect a lot more this year. I just like to go hard and fight back. I have always been told to go hard and do your best every play. That is what I do."

Powe is hearing from Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn and Southern Miss. He was scheduled to visit Alabama this weekend for Junior Day, but those plans have changed.

"I am not going to be able to make it," he said. "I hurt my ankle against Pickens County basketball last weekend. I called Alabama to let them know I will not be able to make because of my injury."

Powe said of his favorites, "I like Auburn and Alabama. I have been to Alabama's campus before, but I haven't been to Auburn or any of the other colleges I have been getting letters from. I really like the Alabama campus. I haven't met the new staff yet. I was planning on doing that this weekend, but my injury ended those plans."

"If I get my ankle back right I want to go to some camps and maybe another Junior Day."

Powe was a standout this season for the Indians on the basketball court as the starting center.

"I consider myself just an all-around sports person. I love playing sports, and I play whenever I can," Powe concluded. source for Alabama for high school football. Recommended Stories
