Class 2A Region 2 is playing out easy so far in 2006. There are four undefeated teams at the top and four winless teams at the bottom of the bracket. The top ranked team in the region is No. 3 Houston Academy (4-0, 3-0*). The Raiders are led by running back Stanley Jones who has 408 yards on just 40 carries.

Quarterback Watson Downs has also been a big playmaker for the Raiders, passing for 231 yards and four touchdowns.

The Raider defense has been down right brutal. They are only giving up eight points per game so far this season. The good news, Wicksburg and Cottonwood have to visit the Raiders. The bad news, it is on back-to-back Friday nights.

Cottonwood (4-0, 3-0*) checks in at No. 9 in the state. The Bears have also been dominant on defense, having two shut-outs already on the year. The games determining their place in the region are in three consecutive weeks. Starting October 13 when they travel to play No. 3 Houston Academy. The other two big games against Geneva County and Wicksburg are at home.

Wicksburg (4-0, 3-0*) is undefeated, but have been battling teams every week, unlike Cottonwood and Houston Academy who have blown out their opponents. The Panthers are dangerous on offense and the have the numbers to prove it.

Quarterback Blake Wallace is 27-47 for 444 yards and six touchdowns. Running back Zack Love has 511 yards on 49 attempts with five touchdowns. Greg Shriah has recorded 11 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Traveling to Cottonwood and Houston Academy is tough, but having Geneva County at home gives them a good shot at the No. 3 spot in region.

The surprise so far in the region is undefeated Geneva County at 4-0, 3-0*. The Bulldogs were 2-8 in 2005 and have only won nine games in the last five years. The last winning season for the Bulldogs was in 2000. The 2006 team has found success running and throwing the ball. Quarterback Shayne Outlaw has thrown for over 300 yards and has five touchdowns. The Bulldogs host Cottonwood and travel to Houston Academy later in the year. These games will decide their spot in the play-offs.

The bottom of the bracket has winless G.W. Long, Houston County, New Brockton and Samson all at 0-4. Do not expect much noise from any of these teams.

Chris's Take: My bet is on Cottonwood taking the top spot in the play-offs, followed by Houston Academy, Wicksburg and Geneva County.
