'Time-Out': Alfred McCullough

Alfred McCullough, the 6-3, 297-pound dual defensive tackle and offensive lineman for Athens High School is looking forward to his senior season. We asked the University of Alabama verbal commitment to join us in our 'Time-Out' series.

"I worked on my speed this summer," Alfred McCullough said of his off-season. "We've got high expectations of going very far in the play-offs this year."

Athens returns 18 starters in 2006. We asked McCullough the main obstacles of the Golden Eagles getting into the championships.

"Just getting out of the North," he said. "The North is a tough region this year, but we are going to take it game-by-game."

Athens went 8-5 losing by a heartbreaking three points to Buckhorn 34-31 in the third round in 2005. Buckhorn was elevated to 6A competition in 2006.

The Class 5A Region 8 includes Decatur High School who drops from 6A competition. A.P. Brewer, Hartselle, J.O. Johnson, Muscle Shoals, Russellville and West Point round out the region.
