Gainesville (Florida) big man Joel Embiid, a four-star recruit whose stock has risen dramatically over the past year, made it official, as he signed his National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Kansas.
The 7-0 220 pound Embiid and the Kansas coaching staff, led by Bill Self, hit it off when he visited in mid October. During his visit, he had the opportunity to watch practice and see how he would fit within the Kansas program.
What's astonishing is that Embiid didn't begin playing basketball until the age of 16 in his native Cameroon. In a short period of time, he's learned the game and shows unlimited potential.
"Joel fits what we do and how we play. He has so much to learn and he's just now getting it. He's a different player today than he was in the summer and I guarantee he will be a different player in February than he is now. I just think he's going to continue to get better and better at an accelerated rate," Self said.
Embiid chose the Jayhawks over Florida and Texas.
