Stars of Alabama 5A

Some great performances came out of class 5A this week, win or lose these performances stood out for recognition. These are the Stars of Alabama for Week Two of the 2010 season.

Jake Ganus
Junior Quarterback
6-3, 190 pounds
Chelsea High School

Ganus completed 25-of-35 passing attempts for 286 yards including the 8-yard strike that tied the game 34-34 before Ashley Page kicked the extra point for the win 35-34 over Sylacauga.

DeMarcus James
Senior Running Back
5-9, 215 pounds
Demopolis High School

James had a big week, first he committed to the Cougars of Washington State where former University of Alabama assistant coach Dave Ungerer coaches running backs. The very talented James got it done on the field when he rushed for 129 yards on 16 carries scoring three touchdowns in the 42-3 win over Chilton County.

Erique Florence
Senior Quarterback
6-2 185 pounds
Valley High School

Florence is hitting his stride as his team's new quarterback. He completed seven of his nine pass attempts for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 162 yards on eight carries and scored a third touchdown of 49 yards in the 45-12 win over Rehobeth. Florence is recruited as a defensive back.

Demonte Jett
Senior Quarterback
6-0, 200 pounds
Eufaula High School

After a disappointing opening loss to Abbeville to start the season, Eufaula hit their stride led by senior quarterback Demonte Jett. Jett rushed for 121 yards on 17 carries including three touchdowns of 32, 1, and 2 yards in the 37-6 win over B.T. Washington. Eufaula will face a tough Tallassee team that has gutted out two wins over very good teams by three total points.

Kevin Williams
Junior Quarterback
6-0, 160 pounds
Fairfield High School

Williams rushed for 156 yards scoring twice, he also connected on passes of 76 yards and a third touchdown of five yards. The Tigers defeated Parker 36-0.

Kyle Crabtree
Senior Quarterback
5-10, 165 pounds
and
Seth Dodd
Senior Linebacker
6-0 205 pounds
Fort Payne High School

Fort Payne won an emotional game after linebacker Noah Hall was seriously injured in an automobile accident on Tuesday. The accident that also claimed the life of his five-year-old niece. The Wildcats carried Hall's jersey on to the field to start the game. Senior quarterback Crabtree played a spectacular game completing 14-of-18 passing attempts for 274 yards scoring five touchdowns of 38, 15, 43, 33, and 40 yards. He rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries and scored a 19-yard touchdown in the 38-0 win over Etowah.

Dodd had 16 tackles with 10 solo, two big hits, three quarterback pressures, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in the shut-out win.

Ben Wheeler
Senior Quarterback
6-3, 170 pounds
Chris Ervin
Senior Tight End
5-11, 190 pounds
Pleasant Grove High School

Wheeler completed 14-of-18 passing attempts for 249 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans had to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit to win 29-24 over region opponent John Carroll. Ervin caught five passes for 150 yards in the 29-24 win.

Brent Calloway
Senior Running Back/Linebacker
6-3, 225 pounds
Russellville High School

Calloway keeps hauling in big numbers. This week he rushed for 180 yards and had 46 yards receiving. Defensively, the University of Alabama verbal pledge had a sack and a pass breakup on defense. Russellville defeated Lawrence County 42-0

Kane Rooks
Senior Quarterback
6-0, 185 pounds
Southside Gadsden High School

Rooks completed nine of his 11 passing attempts for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-12 win over Albertville scoring two touchdowns on 22 and 24 yard passes. He also rushed for 56 yards.

Marvin Shinn
Senior Wide Receiver
6-4, 195 pounds
Vigor High School

Sometimes scores aren't indicative of performance and Friday night's loss to Davidson (48-18) was no exception for Shinn. The Alabama commitment caught eight passes for 163 yards and hauled in two touchdowns of 32 and 77 yards against an always tough Warrior defense. Vigor returns to 5A play this week with their first region game against Citronelle. Their first two games were against 6A opponents.
